Apple picking is a favorite fall activity! Why not make it a fun opportunity to teach some fall words and concepts in a fun and engaging way?
Before you go apple picking here are some ways you can build excitement and teach your child about apple picking:
- You can talk about where you are going to be going and what you are going to be doing and seeing. “We are going to go pick apples!” or “We are going to go on a hayride!”
- Make a list of things you will do once you get there or things you may see. You can also make it a scavenger hunt by printing out pictures of things you think you will see and checking them off as you find them at the apple orchard.
- Songs and videos that you could listen to or watch together about apples and apple picking:
- Way Up High in an Apple – Apple Song for Kids – Children’s Song by The Learning Station You can have so much fun together acting out this song together!
- Apples! | Nursery Rhymes & Kids Songs with Sweet Tweets
- Apples and Bananas with Lyrics – Vowel Songs – Kids Songs by The Learning Station
- Sometimes, children may become nervous if they are in a new environment. Showing your child this video about what a visit to an apple orchard is like may help him know what to expect by showing him the sights and sounds he may experience while there: Let’s Go To An Apple Orchard | Caitie’s Classroom | School Field Trip For Kids
- Books about apples and apple picking:
- Ten Apples Up On Top by Dr. Seuss
- Apple Picking Day! by Candice F. Ransom
